Julio Cerne Chaves in a rust-colored knit sweater, looking at the camera, with concrete steps behind him

Hi, I’m Julio.

I’ve spent most of my life building things, entering environments I didn’t completely understand, and figuring them out along the way.

I’ve built companies, sold companies, moved from Australia to the US, spent more than a decade inside the creator economy — and I’m still building.

These days I’m building Xrossworld, writing about what I’m learning, and selectively working with people where I think my experience can genuinely help.

I’m still in the arena. Most of what I say about building, I’m testing in real time.

being the outsider

Brazil, Slovenia, then Australia, partly in a self-sustaining community. I was the new kid a lot. You learn to watch a room before you join it.

30+ years. The only way I know to get good at something is to keep showing up. It compounds.

starting again

Travelling instead of the usual path after school. Leaving corporate work. Moving to the US. None of it came with a guarantee. You go, and adjust.

College of Sports and Fitness is where I learned business by running one, from pricing and hiring through to an exit.

I care who I work with. Probably more than whatever first brought us into the room.

Ideas change.
Products change.
Markets change.
Strategies change.

People change too, but usually more slowly. So I pay attention to how someone shows up — whether they keep going when things are slow, are honest when things get messy, take responsibility, and care about more than the transaction.

Money matters. Businesses have to work. But I also want to understand what’s driving the person behind it.

When it makes sense, I might help with strategy, GTM, growth, creator media, entering the US, an introduction, or simply be someone you check in with for perspective.

Sometimes the conversation starts with:

“I’m thinking about doing this. What do you think?”

And sometimes the most useful thing I can do is listen and tell you what I see.

I built my first companies in Australia, then moved to the US and essentially started my network again.

If you’re making a similar move, in either direction, I’m happy to share what I learned the hard way.
